Where to Take Your Child the Day of the Operation
Moffitt Operating Suites at UCSF
505 Parnassus Ave.
Report to surgical waiting area, on the first floor of the main
hospital, M104, 2 hours before the operation. You will be directed
to the admitting department in the first floor of Moffit hospital
at UCSF, Room M-140 after you check in.
Surgery Center at UCSF Parnassus Campus
Ambulatory Care Center, 400 Parnassus Ave.
Report directly to the surgery center 1 hour before the operation
is scheduled to begin.
Kaiser Permanente Medical Center
Report to the admitting department 2 hours before the operation.
California Campus
3700 California Street
Report to the admitting department 2 hours before the operation.

For many parents, the idea of a child-undergoing anesthesia-medicines that make a child lose sensation or consciousness-is as frightening as surgery.
The Division of Pediatric Anesthesia at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is comprised of highly trained, experienced anesthesiologists who understand the stressful nature of the surgical experience and the special needs of children and their parents. Pediatric anesthesiologists make a difference in caring for children who are going to undergo surgical or diagnostic procedures that require anesthesia or sedation, especially very young children under two years of age or very sick children. Pediatric anesthesiologists are physicians who have had at least a year of specialized training in anesthesia care of infants and children in addition to a one-year internship and three-year residency in anesthesia. The pediatric anesthesiologist's additional training and experience provides extra security and reassurance to the anxious parent.
Recovery & Bed Rest Requirements
The amount of time your child will spend in the hospital is dependent on the type of procedure perfomed, the health of your child and the treatment plan. Following some operations, children are able to go home the same day. Other procedures require a hospital stay. The length of time varies with each procedure and treatment plan. This will be discussed with you at the time of your surgical consultation .
